A mediator is a skilled, independent professional who uses various techniques to find and build understanding and agreement between parties. Mediation is a very flexible process that can be applied to resolve a wide range of disputes.
It can work for individuals, organisations, and communities. Together, with the help of the mediator parties agree on the settlement terms that ensure that their interests are upheld and that a meaningful resolution of the dispute is achieved.
We have extensive experience in mediating between individuals, eg. in divorce settlements, between employers and employees, unions and companies, as well as in large complex multi-party matters.
During 2013 and 2014, Ben Schoeman was the lead mediator in a complex multi-party mediation between a private commercial enterprise and an affected community in Uganda, conducted on behalf of the Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (CAO) of the World Bank Group.
The mediation produced a four-year agreement between the parties, during which Ben monitored and supported its implementation.
The process finally concluded in 2018.
